Your United Way

Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy and our neighborhoods are safe. Your United Way is working hard every day to impact the issues related to health, income and education.

In these tough times, it’s a difficult decision to give.
So, why should you give?

  • You want to make sure that kids have what they need to succeed. Your gift to United Way supports programs at Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Focus on Youth, Family YMCAs, Fieldale Community Center, Girl Scouts, and For The Children.
  •  You believe that all children deserve a chance to learn and succeed and your gift supports Smart Beginnings, which provides The Starting Place at Liberty Fair Mall. The Starting Place provides parenting classes, workshops for local childcare providers, and help with children’s developmental milestones.
  • It's important to you that there are local programs and services. Through United Way’s Nonprofit Leaders Network all local organizations can access training, technical assistance and consulting services which can help them be more effective and efficient.
  • You want to make sure that people in crisis get help and your gift helps provide the services they need by supporting agencies like Adult Day Care of MHC, American Red Cross, Citizens Against Family Violence, CONTACT, Grace Network, Salvation Army, and Mental Health Association.
  • You want to help the mentally and physically challenged in our community achieve independence and work skills through programs and services your gift supports at Stepping Stones and MARC Workshop.
You want to help families and children be more financially stable. United Way's HOPE (Helping Other Progress Economically) Initiative, provides free income tax preparation and financial literacy classes for adults, helps all high school seniors learn about finances and prepare for their future, and gives working, single mothers the chance to achieve financial stability through the Money Management Mentoring Program.
  • You want to make sure everyone has access to emergency medical assistance. Your gift helps support Axton Life Saving Crew, Bassett Rescue Squad, Fieldale-Collinsville Vol. Rescue Squad, and Horsepasture Vol. Rescue Squad.
  • You want to help young people avoid risky behaviors and grow up to be healthy adults through United Way’s support of prevention programs at Piedmont Community Services.
  • You believe that access to health care is important for everyone and your gift will help provide discount prescription drug coverage through United Way’s partnership with FamilyWize and provide FAMIS health insurance for children.
  • You want to live in a community where people care. United Way helps people care by providing the Volunteer Connection, an online resource, that lists hundreds of local volunteer opportunities for any age and any schedule.
